A while back I asked how to get light to stop shining through the GM_brush... I got a solution and things seemed to be working, but now I can no longer see through said brushes as GM, even though the tabs seem to be correct.

I don't think there ever was an entity called gm_brush, are you referring to func_brush_ow?

What properties are you using?

yes that is what I meant... my tabs that are changed are the GM render (don't render) shadows are enabled and they are not solid to GM clicks.

Ha, fancy that. Me too :harhar:

My issues:
  • shadows pass through the brush
  • gibs (and possibly enitites) pass through it
I'm still messing around with the config trying to find what works and what doesn't.

These are the following settings you should use to make a func_brush_ow NOT render for the GM.

  • Use GM Render Settings: Yes
  • GM Render Mode: Don't Render

I am already using these settings. That doesn't resolve the other two issues.

use tools/toolsblocklight to prevent lights from passing through brush entities. leave a few units between these faces brushes and world brushes, otherwise you might get nasty seams.

afaik, there's no real reliable way to prevent physics objects such as gibs and ragdolls from going through dynamic brushes. At the very least, objects like grenades shouldn't pass through them if you set the properties right.

You could likewise use a clip tool texture on it, though i can't remember if that works right. if that doesn't work a brush with nodraw.

If you don't plan on having your func_brush move, then using an invisible or nodraw tools texture underneath it would work

IIRC invisible/nodraw also casts shadows, so you don't need to use blocklight if you don't have to
