I had a thought of some abilities, how about mortar strikes? Possibly, a ton of synth scanners fly overhead then proceeding to drop mines on the ground, creating a minor annoyance or blocking off routes.

That'd be pretty sweet. Have a wide open area where you could call in artillery / mortars on the players.

Now all we need is some flying lawnmower abilities.

If anything like this were to happen, it'd be at most a slight hinderance; I don't know about you but headcrabs have hardly been my greatest fear in the HL universe. Perhaps you could willingly sacrifice a group of combine soldiers to make the nade-weilding suicidal crazies that we see. Headcrabs on their own? Not going to really effect much.

that's true, but have you ever tryed a black headcrap dameging you down to 1 hp and then get jumped by a fast headcrap ? not fun :) i like the idea of turning the combines into zombines though, even though most likely it just wouldn't work in game

What if the headcraps worked like the jockey from Left 4 dead 2, Just milder.
Like they jump onto a players head and pulls them in the opposite direction of the group, but the infected player walks the speed of a zombie (that way it's better balanced)

don't think they need to work like that, if eatch bite takes out 10 damg you and there are 12 of them then you can die prety quick if you don't shoot them, plus combines shooting at you at the same time

I thought of an idea. Well basicly there might be a high importance building and you can call in a gunship to drop a supression device (mortar) on the roof that has to recharge and is only an ability rather that a turret.

It's supposed to be like the mortar ontop of that museum from when you meet up with Barney towards the end of HL2

I suppose this would be like your mortar you already put in except this one requires line of sight. So they can't, for instance shoot over a building unless there's a hole in it and can see over there.

yeah, different kinds of head crabs to be able to drop maybe every 7 minutes, (we don't want like every two mins, cause they rebels would get pwnd) and a menu comes up for what kinds, but there are limits to how many, like normal 7, fast, 4, black 2 (cause of their way of annoying you with 1 hp :p), just an idea i thought of.

I don't think anything elaborate would need to happen with the headcrab shells, but you'd have to use it intelligently. Using one or two and expecting them to kill the Rebels wouldn't work, you'd have to keep a squad of Combine nearby to attack them while the headcrabs are distracting them. Or box them in with mortar shots and let the headcrabs surround them. Or box them in with Combine troops and drop as many shells as you can on them. After all, when your toughest weapons are literally a brain-eating parasite, you're kind of obliged to use them as effectively as possible. You're already being a jerk just by using them; why half-ass it?

EDIT: My "elaborate" comment is in response to Twitwi's idea that the headcrabs should behave like L4D's jockeys. CCCPkiller's suggestion on having multiple headcrab "ammo" types is clever and would be a very fun addition.
