Yeah I was implying, a grey'd out overlay over old intel/areas.

Also that is what I was intending, grey out the areas over which intel is old, including props and enemy forces. (Not sure if possible @ props, an icon could be used for forces though)

It might be interesting to have the scanners reveal certain stats about the player when they take a picture of them. Perhaps health, armor (if any), weapons and equipment.
Also, maybe limiting the items that can be carried by rebels at a single time would encourage teamplay. For example, there might be a weight limit so a single player can't carry an RPG, an AR2, a revolver, a crossbow, grenades, SLAMs, AND a shotgun all at the same time. Players would be forced to partially specialize. Two players might carry an RPG to take down heavily armored enemies while the others carry more standard weaponry. This would also allow the Combine player to "snipe" off vital rebel players and force the rebels to retrieve the fallen player's weapon or item.

Yeah, weight, or at least equipment, limits for the Rebels should probably be in.

Make them choose on what they're going to take into battle, an RPG launcher with 2 rockets and one already loaded or an RPG with 1 rocket, one loaded, as well as a pistol with a few mags? SMG with 3 mags and 2 grenade launches, or 2 mags and 3 grenade launches?

First post!

1) A suggestion, in order to defend objectives like terminals and things like that, if not already considered by the Overwatch team, can the RTS player spawn Sentry turrets, Hopper mines and Roller mines where ever wants? Because surely in some levels, with the absence of the Gravity Gun, these NPCs would be extremely difficult to avoid/defeat.

TL;DR: There needs to be a way of regulating how many gravity gun-fighting NPCs the Overwatch player can spawn.

2) Hunter Choppers (if used in the mod) should have the ability to drop the massive number of mines like in HL2 and Episode 2 when they reach low health. It'd probably lag many PCs to death especially in a multiplayer game, but it'd look amazing and play brilliantly, especially in an urban environment with Rebels running into buildings and mines flying through skylights towards them.

Great suggestion, chap, keep them going.

Something like threat level of building is cool.

No threat: white round around the house
Low threat(1-5 person): Yellow round
Medium threat(6 to 10 person): Orange round
High threat(11 to 20 person): Red round
Extrema threat(maximum person count that build can hold): Dark round

And you could launch a headcrab shell into a build to lower a threat level.(Person would infest into slower zombie or killed via shall impact)

If the building is infested, there should be a small bio-hazard icon beside the building, the person inside building will decreasing until infested effect wear off.(zombie and headcrab killed)

Combine soldier could occupy the building when there is no threat, turning them into combine building. (some company of heroes idea i like to have in half-life 2 wars mod.)

The RTS gameplay of Overwatch doesn't include "buildings" as seen in regular RTS games. Overwatch is an FPS/RTS hybrid, which means the maps need to work from first person perspective as well, and they will be designed accordingly. In other words, Overwatch is an FPS game with RTS elements, not the other way round. While there can be some dynamic changes in the layout of a map, the mod is still based on the Source engine where it's not possible to create completely dynamic maps that look good enough. At least not without dynamic lighting...

Its difficult to make gameplay suggestions when little is known about how it will actually play.

I can't answer that just yet. I'd recommend tracking this Blog as we'll be posting about the Strider there when the time is right.

Oh yes, definitely want those! There are a few things we need to get rid of with regards to the HEV suit (amour).

lol these days i find the idea of being able to see my own legs to be a strange and foreign concept.

I remember playing.. one of the Halo games at a party a few months back (I don't own a console, BOO CONSOLES ahem, moving on) and looking down to check the level below me for enemies and being rather disturbed by seeing my own legs. I thought somebody was right virtually on top of me, right behind me, and looked all over for them until a friend informed of me my mistake hah.

I agreed with braddollar, seeing your legs isn't really needed, and its quite foreign in most games Ive seen, although, shadows would make a good way of detecting something before you see it, such as combine running, you see the shadow of their preparation for an ambush perhaps. but we on the RTS side, i don't think its that needed.

Something just seems wrong about the Combine being able to control one unit directly idea, I mean it kind of detracts from the whole "Managing a large force" thing.

Being able to see your own body is great for the immersion factor, I'm not sure if seeing your own shadow is even possible, but if it is that would be cool too.
