It's Official!

Hello there!

You've probably noticed me running around with the nice little title of "Community Liaison" for some time now. Those of you with enough interest have probably wondered, "What's that?!" Well, let me break it down for you...

Now, there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that each and every one of you reading this thread has, at some point or another, seen AndY leaping about the forum posting the latest Overwatch News, the most recent Progress Report, or scheduling another Ask the Devs! session. You name it, he does it all!

That's where I come in! For the past month or so, I've been training up for the position of Community Liaison, by listening in on important development meetings, re-learning the English language, playing super secret double-agent, excetera. All the fun stuff! Don't get me wrong, it's not all fun and games; I half-expect to have an aneurysm in the coming weeks. To let you know just how I feel right now, here's a list of some of my upcoming duties:

As Community Liaison (CL), I will be responsible for:

  • Posting Overwatch News
  • Preparing Progress Reports
  • Coordinating Ask the Devs! sessions
  • Announcing Overwatch Releases and Updates
  • Moderating the Community Forum
  • Scheduling Community Playtimes
  • Handling Bug Reports
  • Providing Community Support (including mapping queries)
  • Keeping the development team informed on Community Discussions
Additionally, any development requests should be handled by myself to avoid disrupting the workflow of everyone at redMatter.

In short, I act as a two-way bridge between the community and the development team.

And now, it's time for my first official act as Community Liaison!

As you may or may not know, it's almost time for another Overwatch Progress Report.

What's a Progress Report, you say? In short, Progress Reports outline important information about upcoming releases and the overall development of Overwatch. Most importantly, Progress Reports keep us, the community, up-to-date with the future of Overwatch. Of course, none of this would be possible without you, and that's why we'd like to hear your opinion.

That's right! Help us improve the quality of our Progress Reports by telling us what you like, dislike and would like to see in future reports. Help us, help you! We're open to all suggestions, so feel free to go absolutely wild in the comments below.

For more information regarding these reports, refer to this Blog entry. All previous reports can be viewed in this forum section.

Thanks for reading!

Whou! You got a promotion! ^^
I had some questions for you and the developement team :
-If this is too hard, the devs will choice more CL?
-As you can see, I do a "Ideas and suggestions round-up", can we have at each update (I say that I can say everything) some lines which tell us which suggestions are accepted/refused?
-You are here, it's good, but if you can't be here for a moment for some reason, who will remplace you?
-Can we still talk to the developement team directly (without talking to a CL)?

Perhaps, but I'm confident that WAXT will be able to handle the workload.

That wouldn't be possible. Many of those suggestions haven't even been considered internally as they don't align with our current plans, but that doesn't mean that they won't be considered in the future.

If WAXT cannot be reached, you can email support using the red Help! button above, or stop by our Live Chat.

The dev team will still be active on this forum and on Live Chat, and we will still participate in community events.

Congratulations on your recruitment to the Overwatch development team, my good man. You seem to have a lot of responsibilities, including some a mod's manager would handle. Very nice. I wish you the best of luck. By the way, add me on Steam. ;D

Congrats on the promotion! I wish you well.

As for questions and the like,

Are the any plans for version 4.1.1 already being hammered-out?

What is the team doing about the riot shield?

What would be your estimation of when Overwatch will become self-sustaining (at least one active server at any given time)?

Is there anything I (or any member of the community) can do to speed-up that process?

One thing I'd specifically like to see is just more info about entities. Any changes planned for current entities, any new entities planned with some details about the new entities, etc.

Best if you ask these kinds of questions in the upcoming Ask the Devs! thread. :)

Of course, but I don't ask you to say if you will add or not every suggestions in one update, 1 or 2 confirmations still good.
But I'm not the developement team, I don't know how this is hard to work on Overwatch ;)

Thanks very much guys. :D

The announcement of my position on the dev team was however, only half the purpose of this post. Doesn't anyone have any suggestions or requests to improve our Progress Reports?

Who says they're bad right now as they are? You guys do a pretty good job, we will see if you can fulfill the shoes of Andy.

Ummm. You could be a bit more clear on the layout and details of the progress reports, just so that its very informative and we understand what features are coming to Overwatch.

Can you explain a bit further? Maybe give me an example?

Well, such as the new Barracks system. You've mentioned it before this time, but haven't explained it at all. Why announce and talk about it without details?

To give you something big to look forward to and to gauge the community's reaction, for the most part.

When we feel the feature's ready, we'll definitely share more info about it.

Interesting.
I know it was a bit early, but it's the kind of feature that would have a big impact on gameplay (should we decide to update our existing maps to use it), so we needed a head start on getting some feedback from the community.
