Every now and a again I get a simple question in my head about mapping, and when I decide to post said question I feel like I wasted a whole thread for nothing. SO instead of making waste I will create (yet another) archive of simple questions (it has been "very" popular on interlopers).

http://www.interlope...php?f=2&t=31653

Got a Unbearably simple question? NO!? well, if you ever do in the future, just post here and maybe...just maybe, it will be answered. Now this is for simple questions only, if you have a broad question or a more complex one, you might want to create a new thread... but if you want to know how many NPC_headcrabs you can use before it's overkill, feel free to ask it here.

Examples of when to post "simple" questions

- When it's a yes or no question
- If the devs are too busy to talk in live chat, or are not on live chat.
- When you want a wider pool of contributers.
- When the question is trivial, or opinion based (still must be about mapping though)
- When time is not a factor, but you don't want to leave live chat open.

NOW... to get the ball rolling, how many headcrabs are too many headcrabs? because I have overdone it a few times in the past I would like to know a respectable level of headcrabery.

P.S. and so no one gets all objective on my arse, I must add... "be sure to browse the valve wiki http://developer.val.../wiki/Main_Page "

Anything over two canisters or five headcrabs is pushing it. Crossroads is a bit of a dissappointment because there are too many zombies, just by a bit. It doesn't feel like Ravenholm or something, it feels like HL2 DM.

Hey, a simple questions thread!
How do you control the view during team select, before the game starts? It keeps popping up inside geometry.

The view? Of team select? I don't understand your question, please elaborate.

I tried to configure Hammer for Overwatch and it flat-out doesn't work. I put it on the 2009 engine and I think someone mentioned something about the 2007 engine. Is it as simple as using the wrong engine or should I start dicking-around on the developer's wiki?

It's usually with an info_player_start, but it's bugged at the moment, so don't worry too much about it if you can't get it to work. We'll fix it soon. :)

Start with this, and if you're still having trouble, just swing by our live chat and we'll give you a hand.

Are you supposed to use an info_player_start? Isn't it just info_player_rebel_ow or info_player_gm_ow?

Yes, info_player_start is the origin of players who have just connected. Hence it is the viewpoint of the map they will first receive. Those other two are spawn points for rebel players and the Overwatch respectively.

Oh and ScrooLewse, i had the same problem. You will need to manually configure Hammer by editing the config file. I'll see if i can send you mine, then you can just change the directories to match your system.

EDIT: Copy and paste the attached file into C:\Steam\steamapps\ACCOUNT_NAME\sourcesdk\bin\source2007\bin

Note: This is assuming you have no other games previously configured for use on the Source2007 engine. Replacing the exsisting file will remove any configuration data already present. (A good way to find out is to open the file.)

If not, simply overwrite the exsisting file and edit using notepad. Replace ACCOUNT_NAME with your Steam Account Name.

and should I post a lololol epic mappin' vid in the map pimpage thread?

pfft. of course.

How often do people allow you to use their Garry's Mod models in your maps when you ask permission?

If you email them with respect and courtesy, they'll let you.
