One thing I kinda miss about Overwatch is the whole Rambo aspect the armor and smg grenade provides and you could bring the team back from the brink of death. A lot of people wish they could still do that in game and feel like Gordon Freeman. So what about armor do people like so much that they want back? to me it seems to be the whole idea that you can take more damage and keep on going. Also what about the idea of SMG grenades do people love? Again personally I think it's the control you have over such a powerful weapon (a lot more control then a grenade toss) and the area of effect it had on spam. So I thought about another way to bring those two idea together.
Perhaps the answer is a hacked roller-mine class. Basically the roller-mine acts like an assistant. It helps you fight combine and distracts them. You could also control it with some kinda laser pointer to tell it where to go (kinda what you can do with the rpg rocket now?) So it can seek out ambushes. It would be tremendous help to a player who has a less-organized team allowing them to have back up they know will be there. It also works even better with a team. Imagine using this little guy to distract combine while a defender protects both of you while you resurrect someone.
The rollermine wouldn't be invincible and after enough hits it would be disabled. The tech would have to come over and pick it up which would allow it to repair its loss health. The rollermine always starts in the techs hands and he kinda lets it go loose.
deep down I don't like the idea of a rollermine assistant and would prefer a mini d.o.g. which I think would be far more unique and interesting. But the idea started out with a rollermine so to get it out I just put that down.
THIS IS NOT A ROLE THAT REPLACES AN ACTUAL TEAM MATE. IT'S TO OFFER SUPPORT.

A "Tech" role should do more than just hack Rollermines (basically equip him with Alyx's EMP tool and give it a few different uses throughout the levels).
What we could then do is add a few "inactive" Rollermines in the level that the Tech could activate and deploy, hit a few combine units then auto-destruct.
They need to start inactive, or they'd cause way too much damage to the rebels (and since we won't have a Grav Gun most of the time, it would be unstoppable).

well it starts off disabled in the rebels hands. Think the Snark gone rollermine except you only have that one and you need to keep track of it? like that rollermine is a part of the player. and it's always allied to the rebels so thier is no need to hack it. it starts off in the techss hands carrying it and they "use" it. so it rolls at enemys or follows the red laser and then when it's taken too much damage then it malfunctions until the player who is the tech comes over and picks it up again to repair. similar to the medics recharge. I guess the role tech is misleading and should have been assistant or something that's why I said a mini d.o.g would have been better because he is the pet in game.

Uhh...yes and no.
The sound of having another role is great, but the whole rollermine idea is what puts me off it. The technician should be able to increase the rate at which a console is hacked, and perform other 'tech-only' actions such as opening or closing mechanical doors, etc, but the rollermine is pretty iffy. Perhaps allowing the technician to plant sensors on walls, floors and ceilings?
The sensor would either be activated by a trip laser or proximity (or both), alerting the rebels to the presence of combine (or stupid team-mates). You could use the SLAM model and it would be 'planted' similar to the C4 of Counter-Strike (walls, ceilings & floors). The combine units would not attack it (to them it poses no threat) unless the ever-watchful Overwatch ordered it directly (meaning they would have to find it). The sensor, when activated, would either give off a loud wailing noise or display an alert on the minimap.
What do you think?

hacking roller mines sounds like my hack tool only with direct control.
edit: also for the inactive roller mines have them act like dogs ball.
