easy multiplayer access with the option of online (splitscreen)

This is one of the main reasons I praise Bungie. Some people actually think online splitscreen gaming isn't a popular feature, I say they're silly. It's requested quite a bit and it is a bucket load of fun, since the whole ease of organising attacks with a friend in the same room is satisfying. Won't ever be a feature on PC titles though, but then PC gamers seem to put more of an effort into their gaming.

Gordon Freeman makes a good FPS.

I heard he makes a good Risotto too.

I always like teamwork. Iron-sighting was another thing I liked in FPS games, it made me feel immersed within the game world. Immersion was always something I liked, Dead Space was a good example of what I mean, (Sure it's not an FPS but still.) Everything you need to know is on your screen in one way or another, when you need it. HUD is cool and all, but I don't like it if it's too flashy, simple is better. Balanced weapons, classes, realistic, and customization are all things I like in FPS games. Immersion is something I love, Call of Juarez is one of my favorite FPS games for, a couple of reasons, one, it's fun two, It had full body awareness and there weren't any viewmodels, everything you saw and did, everyone else did too. Full Body Awareness, is something I really like in my FPS games, Being able to see my legs and shadow is never a bad thing, your enemies can see you legs and shadow, why can't you?

I like big maps with lots of room to explore, in either single- or multiplayer. It's one of the reasons I've always enjoyed the Battlefield series, and why Far Cry 2 is one of my favorite games. Similarly, lots of weapons and equipment so I can plan ahead is a big draw for me. Customizing my toolset so I can approach each fight from a different angle is tremendously appealing, and it's another reason why Far Cry 2 is so fun, along with Team Fortress 2.

Every good FPS needs controls that feel right and gameplay that is familiar enough to bring you in, but different enough to keep you playing.

That goes for both Multi-player and Single-player

Where interesting and innovative ideas are polished to a mirror shine. For example Portal, a puzzle game with a interesting and innovative idea that was polished to a mirror shine. That's just in general, for me (letting out my ego in; 5...4...3...2...1...0) a story can truly save a game. For example Deus Ex is one of my favorite games EVER not because of the gameplay because i play so many FPS's and RPG's that they mostly become bland and dull giving me no incentive to carry on with the game (that is if there not all 5 minuets long and only include a start menu and one mission). It takes a good story to really get me into a game these days.

Liam is right, a good story is always an essential part of a game.

Take MW2 for example. I hate the online gameplay so much and I'd probably hate the single player too but the story for it is so amazing I love it to pieces. Unfortunatley it was very short, which is annoying.

That works too, having a long campaign and a good story = Best selling game.....and that's just the singleplayer on it's own. Kinda like HalfLife really. It was singleplayer only but it's storyline (and other elements such as the incredible physics) made it an award winning title and making it a benchmark for other games.

Modern Warfare 2's story to me in my opinion was pretty bad...only a couple of games that I have seen has a "good" story. Things like Stalin vs Martians had good story! [sarcasm] Honeestly though, I don't see how MW2 had a good story. There was other games that had like really good ones, I just can't remember the name...

Technically, Deus Ex isn't an FPS. :p

It's a TPS/RPG.

What story? :p If someone asked me to explain the plot of MW2 I wouldn't even know where to begin. The 'story' was simply a means of loosely connecting each level and was, to me, complete gibberish.

The set pieces were fun, but whatever plot it had was torn to pieces by plotholes.

No doubt that the game is incredibly fun and it's probably one of the best FPS experiences I've ever had. :)

I'm afraid i'm going to haft to call BS there, well on your opinion being one of the "best FPS experiences" yes it did have some fun levels, but it was way to short and had no proper narrative to it. Thing about games like HL2 and Deus Ex they where very long and had a good story to boot.

Meh, story. Interesting and fun multiplayer gameplay > story. I don't even remember the last time I launched a singleplayer game, or played a game by myself.

I don't understand what made me remember it as a TPS...... My brain is officially fried.

Had to load the game again to remember that it was a freaking FPS. :(
