Highlight when grenades are thrown

Dancing's Photo Dancing 29 Aug 2010

I think grenades and need to be highlighted when used or thrown because it's very hard to see them... you can seem them but sometimes they get lost in all the action.

They leave a red trail when flying through the air.

but the question is how would it effect gameplay?

giving people time to go "Oh hey they threw a grenade... I should dodge or move my guys..." instead of "what's that pixel...(BOOOM)...oh it was a grenade...yeah..." I know it can be done they did it in Dystopia because people had a hard time reacting in some respect without knowing who's grenade it was and in Relic's Company of Heroes and Dawn of War you can clearly see when a grenade is thrown and how long before it goes off so you can move your guys. 90% of the time even with the warning you never get 100% out of the way in both Dystopia or Dawn of War 2 but hey you knew it was coming and you can learn from the situation.

how would it benefit in any way? you don't really have time to move your guys.

you could in some scenarios but the only reason I stressed that sometimes no matter what you do your gonna get hit is because some people are gonna be like it would make it too easy to dodge or some people do just know how to toss good grenades and if you can't react it's your problem. all I am asking for is to be able to see what the heck is causing my guys to explode and shatter because if didn't know that their were indeed grenades on certain maps i might wonder what the heck is going on. It's not game breaking or incredibly game changing. I just think it helps people know what is going on and it might help them be able to react differently if they can indeed dodge the grenade or stop their guys from walking into it. I really don't see how this could be a bad idea.

No harm in it, simple enough to add, maybe even situationally useful, plus it is a glitch that you can not see trails as OW anyway.

I think a visual/audio cue is a good idea if you're actually over the area (if you're not, then there's no point except for an audio/visual cue telling you your guys blew up).

Aside from that though, the AI should probably be improved a little bit to avoid them a bit better (they do a bit already).

Like a scatter command? A grenade was tossed into a group of combine, quickly highlight and use a scatter command so the units split up to avoid getting killed.

Ah right, I've been thinking about that as well. Should be fairly easy to implement, but grenades are pretty quick to explode.

have a scatter command that automatically tells all groups to "ungroup"... allows you to save the time of trying to highlight anyone...

I'd say the best solution would be to have the units always avoid grenades automatically the best they can. I don't think any Overwatch tactic would involve sending your units to explode into grenades. It requires AI improvements so it's not that quick to implement, however.
