'Game Master' distracts from the atmosphere of the mod you guys are building and kinda makes the players feel like puppets.
That's is the kind of feel expected. As GM I see Rebels as bugs that need to be squashed. I don't think of them players; they don't have any identities to me.

Look at it from the Rebel's perspective for a moment. The game plays VERY MUCH like Sven Co-op, but the difference is that there is a Game Master that controls the enemies. In Sven Co-op, after playing the map 20 or 30 times, you'll know when and where the enemies are going to appear; the GM *changes* the map so this doesn't happen. The Game Master *DOES* control how the game is played, so I think the title suits rather well.

But that's just me.

i understand what you're trying to say (as i also view the rebels as they are -identityless). But what i'm trying to prove here is that it distracts from the HL2 universe. By 'puppets' i mean they are just a part of an elaborate show put on for the amusement of others (eg, a game -in other words they feel like they're playing "just a game"). As i've said, i strongly disagree with making a direct connection to 'the game' as it removes the immersive experience a player should get from it. it's not about who does what or how they do it -it's about what is believable and story driven. Try to picture yourself playing Half Life 2 (as Gordon Freeman) and the combine refer constantly to the 'Game Master' despite it making absolutely no sense in regards to the HL2 universe.

Again, this thread is for discussing different possibilities of what to call the Overwatch player unofficially, like when you talk in the game chat with others. We aren't going to call him the Game Master anywhere in the game itself.

Personally, I like to refer to the Overwatch player as a collective, a Combine, if you will. You see, when you are the resistance, you are individuals fighting against the Combine, which are a collective void of individuality.

Therefore, I myself enjoy calling the commander of the Combine forces as if among the collective as well.

I call them "Overwatch".

What about "The Man". "The Man is using goddamn Manhacks, man. Not cool."

I guess we're calling him Death By Chocolate from now on then.

I prefer "Game Master" as its a nod of the head to the fore father of this mods gameplay style. Dungeons & Dragons.
