In the previous topic, I talked about the Like This button (and associated Reputation points) and the Report function. In this post, I'll be giving you a very quick overview of Notifications and the Messenger.

⇒ Notifications & Messenger
Notifications come in different forms and are triggered by various events. When you receive a notification, a red numbered icon will appear near your UserCP drop-down (the icon on the left shows new Private Messages while the icon on the right shows new notifications of any other type):

Clicking on either icon will open its details drop-down:

As you can see, the first shows your Messenger List (for Private Messages) while the second shows the Notification List (for all other types of notifications, like when someone Likes or Quotes your posts).

You can configure your notification options by clicking the Options button in the Notification List drop-down:

You'll find notification events from various sections of the community (forums, status updates, downloads), and you can configure each event to notify you through the Notification List, by Email or via the Mobile App (I'll talk about the Mobile App in an upcoming post).

Notice that events under the Private Messages section have MSG LIST written in the Notification List column. That's because those notifications will appear in the dedicated Messenger List drop-down.

There are many ways to be notified of new content posted on our community. For example, you can Follow areas and items so that you'll be notified (according to your notification options) when new items are posted or when items are modified (like when someone posts a reply to a topic):

We encourage everyone to take a few minutes to configure their notification options as described above, and be sure to keep an eye on this forum for other upcoming guides.
