It depends on what kind of content you'd like to contribute.

If you're a level designer, then yes, but keep in mind:
  • The UnrealEd is insanely easy to pick up and working with it will be an absolute blast,
  • If you're thinking of a career in the video games industry, a large number of AAA studios are currently looking for people with UE3 experience.

Take a look at some of the tutorial videos on the UDN to get an idea of what to expect.

I tried this link for a second to learn how to develop levels fo it. Its a drag and drop technique for static objects. Its inefficient to my experience with Source, but I guess it works for UDK. I'll see if I can master this in a month to prepare for the demo release.

Edit: If its this easy to learn how to make detailed surroundings in Unreal Engine and it takes years to master the Source engine, I believe anyone who is good with the source engine should be hired by any game company out their with common sense. Source is the most ridiculously complicated thing ever!
