I can't start Overwatch. It loads the loading screen with the strider then just gives me an engine error. I'm running Windows Vista and I've never had this problem with any of my other Source mods. I tried reinstalling Overwatch, and nothing happened. I tried running the SDK base 2007 and then running Overwatch and got the same result.

My Engine Error is

MountFilesystem( 309 ) failed:
SteamMountFilesystem(5128,309,0xf1efd28=,0xf1efc18) failed with error 5: No Steam Content Servers are available

Hi,

We managed to solve this with someone else by having him change the download region in Steam.

To do this, right-click on Steam, go to Settings, click on the Downloads + Cloud tab, then select a different region in the Download region drop-down (preferably a different country altogether), and click OK. Restart Steam as instructed, then try launching Overwatch again.

Let me know if that helps.

Where are you located, and what download location did you pick?

I'm from California, near Sacramento. First I picked Sacramento as my download, then Chicago, then I picked Manchester in the UK. All of these didn't work.

Why don't you try "San Jose" in the US. The download regions also download faster the closer you are to them. So, your in Sacramento CA of the USA, pick either Sacramento or San Jose, and it could fix the issue as well as grant you faster download speeds.

AppID 309 is apparently for episode one 2007 content.gcf - Let's try this:

  • Go to your Steam folder (i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam), locate the ClientRegistry.blob file and delete it,
  • Go to your Steamapps folder (i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps), locate the GCF file mentioned above and delete it,
  • Launch Overwatch again and let me know what happens.

Weirdest thing is I don't own episode one or two, so I don't have this .gcf. >.<

Its probably safe to say you require Half-Life 2: Episode One or Half-Life 2: Episode Two installed and ran at least once. Also have the Source SDK Base 2007 and Source SDK Base 2006 in the "Tools" section of your Game Library installed and ran at least once. That should solve the issue.

No, you don't. You don't need SDK Base 2006 either.

FriskyCat: Did you try deleting the other file? You'll need to restart Steam after you delete that one.

So I deleted ClientRegistry.blob and restarted steam. No difference. I redeleted it and ran the Source SDK Base 2007 again and closed out of it and then tried to run Overwatch again. No difference. I don't know what to do....

In that case, it'd probably be best to continue this via WebChat, so when you have a bit of free time to troubleshoot, click on the blue WebChat button at the top of the page and join our channel.
