Boss fights.

I personally don’t think that direct unit control is a good idea, however I came up with a fun idea:
Imagine if the last stages, just before the rebels can succeed they would have to fight the strider (ok sweet but isn’t that the current idea?)
But then imagine if the strider was played be the overwatch, you see?
After the rebels have fought their way to the end they have to destroy the person who has been annoying them the most, the overwatch player.

Controls for the strider would be simple.
Left click for its major ar2 rifle. (Can overheat or has to warm up, just for the balance sake)
Right click to warp beam (it should have recharge time, just for balance sake)
Ctrl+movement key to avoid missiles with a quick duck (the ai does it, and it would make boss fights more intense)
Space to scream (What I mean with scream is… have you played unreal 3? The Necris dark walker can throw all players under it away by “screaming” or something)
All other keys to play random strider sounds (just for the lulz)

And to make it feel like you are in a strider you should push the FOV up, make an animated overlay, and maybe shake the screen a little :D

Well I don't really support the idea of taking the RTS element away from the Overwatch. But, It would kinda be awesome to control a massive object in a multiplayer game that people actually play. And btw why can't Space be to foot stomp(The animations are already in the engine and it would kinda serve the same purpose.

I don't think direct control is good either, however when it's the last fight, you don't need creeps, you'll only need a (player controlled) strider so that everyone is working together in taking it down. It will also make it more fun to be overwatch.

What about Dog, think about it, a fast four legged machine with the agility of a assassin what could be caller than trying to avoid being grabbed and chucked around the map, while always changing your fighting style all the time to fight off this beast Posted Image. What you say?

That wouldn't work because DOG is on the Rebel's team, no sense would happen if rebels fought an ally

I personally wouldn't cross genre with this. If you want RTT, you join the Overwatch; if you want FPS, you join Resistance. Forcing the Overwatch to be good at both RTT and FPS isn't a good idea, as it isn't really what they should be doing. Heck, for a boss battle, maybe the "boss" is just a distraction and they're amassing a force to kill you all with.

imagine this, it's a boss level, strider spawns (with a few creeps) stupid AI fucks up and strider starts looking into a wall until it dies.
putting that aside as it can be fixed.

It would be something to look forward to, like being the tank in versus mode in Left 4 dead.

I'm not saying you shouldn't be able to control the strider, just have the same degree of control over it as you do with every other unit: you can tell it where to go, the rest is for the AI to screw up.

What if there's more than one Strider?

Why not have the strider be like a hero unit from Warcraft 3? It has its four or so abilities that you can use on the fly, and target with the mouse. Let the machine gun be the auto attack for where you direct the thing. Press a hotkey and select an area and it'll fire a rocket, etc. Keeps the RTS feel, with a different element to allow a boss fight.

Did we mention gun ships already? Those are great to have fights with.
