Just read the update and am eagerly looking forward to what appears to be a whole bundle of fun that you guys have been laboring over.
I'll be interested to see how this compares with Zombie Master, as they both operate off (assuming I read it right) a team of human FPS players versus a single RTS player. It also reminded me of Left4Dead, with the same roles but with an AI acting as the RTS player.

Other than the demand for more teasers and a trailer or two, I can but wait in excitement for what looks to be a very promising game. :D

I only recently stumbled upon it so I've not had to wait an agonizingly long time in anticipation, but I've played a few of the mods members of the team have made and, although not my cup of tea, they are fun. I've no worries this'll be a good game, I just wish we could clone them.

I also surprised about this mod just work so quietly without spooking us then "chin-chin, we some medic for you guys." Nice work though.

Hey Halsh. Thanks for posting the first thread!

Zombie Master is actually what inspired us to create Overwatch. A bit over a year ago, I had a nice discussion with one of Zombie Master's lead developers, theGreenBunny. I was curious as to why a game with such endless potential had ceased development. After exchanging a few emails with him, I put a team together and Overwatch was born.

The idea behind ZM is great, and that's why it is such a popular mod. There are very few games out there that offer a similar FPS/RTS combination, so we've really only scratched the surface of what could be accomplish with this type of gameplay. We've been exploring the idea in detail for quite some time, and believe me when I say, we have a ton of surprises planned for you.

The only similarity between Overwatch and Zombie Master is the core idea of FPS v/s RTS gameplay. But, we've taken our own unique approach to it. I can at least promise you that you will not be controlling any zombies in Overwatch!

I've been wishing for the exact same thing for years. Perhaps Santa will be listening this Christmas.

What, we can't launch headcrabs at them in a bombardment of crowbar-fearing head huggers? Damn.

Really wish there was more information for us to pour over: will there be a tech tree? What degree of control does the RTS player have, and how're units spawned? Do the FPS gamers have a "downed" system, ala L4D, or is it once you're down you stay down?

So many questions, so few answers.. Your teaser teases very well. ;)

Great questions, but all I can say is: you'll find out in a few weeks.

One thing I can mention: our development approach allows us to remain very flexible with the assets we produce. In other words, we're still at a stage where a lot can change and some of it most likely will. One of the reasons for announcing/releasing this early is that we want to get the community involved as soon as possible, as your suggestions and feedback will help shape the mod.

That's great to hear; nothing worse than a dev team totally fixed in their ways like they decided to go swimming in concrete.. Except maybe a dev team who crumples like a stack of cards whenever anything is brought to question.

I look forward to the next few weeks; well, look forward isn't the right phrase.. Maybe "wish the next few weeks would hurry and be done with so I can play this game.".. That sounds about right.

I got to say, this mod looks incredibly interesting. I certainly hope to see it be successful.

I'm curious if any of the developers have ever heard of Iron Grip, so far the only differences between the two seem to be the style, IG failed though, and I hope this doesn't.

From the teaser and other concept art, it looks like all of the levels will be set in City 17/urban areas. It'd be cool to have some maps set on the coast, in Nova Prospekt, in the canals and maybe in the forest from HL2 Ep 2.

We have one coast map and one Ravenholm map currently in pre-production. I'm sure Nova Prospekt will come eventually as well.

I have a concept for a map based on a prison type environment.

Remember, people will also be creating their OWN maps.

So don't fret. Everyone will get what they desire.

One thing, do you reckon the development team would ever ask any other mod makers if they wanted to have their maps turned into an Overwatch map? For example, the Mission Improbable maps converted through use of new entities into an Overwatch map. I doubt it would happen, considering how proud map makers are of their babies, but it'd be an excellent thing to happen.

We probably wouldn't do it ourselves, but we don't place any limitations on what the community can do, as long as they get permission from the map's creator of course.

I just thought of Minerva, and how exciting it would be to have a squad of rebels chased deeper into the island by human-led Overwatch as they're doing some puzzles...
