This topic is just for the riot shield as it is a weapon uncommon in games... Also I am wondering what we as a community can come up with as a back story for how the rebels got a hold of the riot shields weather or not the riot shield is combine tech or just junk that the rebels use and how players generally act wile they have it.

It is a barricade after all, so I can imagine they found out that it was useful for blocking bullets. Its transparent and is transported by the combine... why not carry it themselves? Anyway, they probably needed to get from point A to point B and ended up using it as a crude shield.

The current prop is only temporary. It is only being used because there's no actual Riot Shield model yet.

The way I look at it, the Civil Protection (or metrocops) are human. So they would use riot shields just like the police of the real world. Therefore, the riot shield is Civil Protection equipment/property, stolen and used by the rebels.

I haven't some backstory with that...
maybe the resistance stole it, It is way clever idea.
But if create some prop models for it I can Imagine, that the resistance storm some scrap-heap and fabricate a bulletproof shield from some rotten Tank-armor or something else...
