Basically a few friends of mine have started playing the game, we chat on teamspeak primarily and we've found that the ambience / "epic music" that constantly plays in rounds is ridiculously loud and overpowering to the point where we can barely hear eachother on teamspeak.

We tried turning down music volume but sadly it has noe ffect, so I'd really like to strongly request a "turn the god damn ambience off" button, because i'm sick of playing breach and having a constant WOOOAORRRORORRORORORBWONKIONGWRWOOROROROROROORORORO in my ears.

I know some people like it, and hence it should totally be optional, but my god it's deafening at the moment and you can't turn it off :(

I totally agree with you. It overpowers everything, and I hate it. You can just go in steam\steamapps\sourcemods\overwatch\sound\ and delete the stuff out of there and it should take care of this awful problem for you.

Oh thank god, I thought the music was standard hl2 stuff.
Totally removing it.

Oh, now well that isn't very nice. Perhaps you could kindly ask the devs to turn it down or turn up the output for in-game chat, but no, you go right ahead and delete it. On a side note, i do agree with what is being said here (to an extent).

Say if I'm wrong but when the devs modify something, we have an update, right ? So we download every files needed and the music !. Delete it is a temporary solution.
And I agree with you, since I don't have this problem with a headphone.

They are cool, sure, but I have my own extensive music library to listen to when I want music. I am not a fan of music in any game that I play. The first thing I do whenever I load up a new game is disable the music. For me, 99% of the time it does nothing but detract from my gaming experience. In my personal opinion it was a very poor design decision to add the music without the ability to control its volume. There really should have been somebody around to say "some people won't want to hear this, perhaps we should make sure you can control the volume" when they were brainstorming the idea.

I don't remember if I had to redelete the old ones after the new update or not.

Using a simple audio editing software like Audacity you could just lower the volume on there and then copy the file over the ones in your Overwatch folder, then you'd still have the music but it'd be a lot quieter.

You're assuming we did this intentionally. You're a mapper Brad, you know that ambient_generic entities can't be changed on the fly. Soundscapes wouldn't work either. We've looked into this plenty, believe me.

Possible solutions are a drastic change to the way the current entities work, a new set of custom entities or implementing a completely new sound system like FMOD, either of which would take time.

I'm sure you would all rather we spend time fixing more pressing issues like the AI, so it currently isn't at the top of our priority list. The temporary solution Brad gave is really the best option for the time being (alternatively, you can simply rename the music folder to music_ instead of deleting it).

I know, I know. I apologize for coming off like a dick, it's just the one thing you all have done that I really hate.

You didn't, don't worry.

I completely understand, but again, while some might not like it, others (like myself) love the music. That's pretty much why it isn't such a huge priority. If everyone hated it, we'd have implemented FMOD by now.

It sucks, but unlike EA, we don't have 250 people working on this project. :p Need to prioritize as best we can.

Wow.. Well this is awkward..

Turns out that in all the times we discussed this issue internally, we missed one very obvious and simple solution that we just figured out..

Might be able to solve this after all..

This should be remedied post haste.

I actually agree. ;)

Every game should have volume controls - some like music loud, some soft.. some don't like music in games at all and rock out to their mp3 collection of polka-techno played by a 5 man Tuba-band.

I have an idea...i don't know how but it works!!!
Go to the options menu and after that the sounds, then see the music volume option...toggle down, and see? you can't hear the music....
Sorry, very bad joke, but I don't know, I like the musics of the mod, and I haven't got the idea to delete it( maybe replaced once, but after that i get back the original ambient1 song, becuse that better then the replaced one).
So...maybe choose the first crazy idea with the options, or replaced with a remaked( silented) one,or replaced the musics with Folka's or some rock/techno/pop etc. songs.( because I like the Ow_citadel final, when "Hang on You, Twisted Transistor"(KoRN)

(PS: I replaced the original HL2 songs with some movie-like orchrestal musics, to feel the War Movie-like atmosphere)
