Combine sniper

I know the combine sniper has only a place holder model with a blue beam coming out of its dick. so It doesn't exactly look good in maps where placing a dark room is just not a good idea like lets say a high way over a river. so here's my ideas make a custom models for the sniper based off this beta concept
and give ti the same movement animations as teh regular combien only make its ability deploy which causes it to crouch down and turn on the LAM on the rifle allowing it to shoot.
OK that's just babble here's the idea.
UNIT: overwatch mobile sniper.
weapon: CSI rifle (suggested in another topic)
health: relatively low
fire rate: slower than normal sniper
role: forcing the rebels to take cover wile the rest take them out.

Uh huh. What's wrong with just a regular combine soldier holding a sniper rifle? Obviously no modelling would be required.

good point but there would need to be some way to tell them apart from other combine when they aren't using there rifle. maybe just changing the color of the eyes or making them use the nova prespect model would work but truthfully I like the concept Even though it would be harder to implement.

Well i can't think of any reason why a sniper would not be, well...using his sniper.
Snipers should be placed in positions unreachable by the player (to avoid close combat). Breach makes a fine example of this. If for whatever reason sniper units are engaged at close range, this is a fault of the designer and the map should suffer for it.

I know but making snipers mobile would make them more useful like lets say they are about to be over run move them to another building and redeploy them. snipers will not be using there sniper wile mobile, I really don't think you can accurately fire a heavy rifle wile running unless you ware playing MW2.

What if that sniper unit has got black colored uniform, and only spawns in dark rooms, to make it mobile in the apartment buildings' dark rooms?
Also, the mobile sniper unit's rifle take lower damage than the mounted version.
Because I want two kind of snipers: the mounted sniper( using the EP2's sniper) and that mobile sniper unit, that the overwatch order to place to place (using the BETA sniper).

I think its a good idea. But they should always be using their rifle. In fact, a sniper should be accustomed to fighting at long range and building off of the "make combine less accurate" idea, their aim should suffer as rebels get closer.
It would be an interesting challenge; Snipers would be placed in hard-to-access areas, or put in completely inaccessible areas entirely.
It would vastly increase the tactical opportunities of the Overwatch. And add another interesting challenge to being the Rebels.

Got a small idea, tell me if this awsome or sux but : maybe we can use the animation of the TF2 sniper so this could be more realistic.
And why he must crouch? Why he can't stay on his feet? (for this, a special command or a "hold position" command could be useful for the Overwatch, same if crouch.)
I say it on a other topic but maybe we can create a small model inpirated from this one :

I see no reason to change the sniper from the way he is now, he is supposed to be out of combat, so why not just keep him in the window like he is now? The sniper functions as a map specific enemy, there is no reason for him to be spawned and placed incorrectly by the overwatch player.

you are missing the point here. Also you just bumped a dead topic.

This topic doesnt seem that dead, just rather... malnourished. Its good to have some discussion on this topic. So please tell me, what is the point i am missing? I dont understand when a sniper would be a useful npc on the map in a spot other than where the map creator placed it, please give me a good scenario.

large open maps where the combine has to keep there troops mobile and placing the sniper at teh start to have to respawn on half way up teh map do to it inability to move is just a waist.

This is just a simple design detail for people making the maps.

actually it wouldn't be a waist because of the things they can do with it making a new npc sniper can allow them to make more dynamic encounters with the rebels. Also it wouldn't be taht hard to make the NPC just take father Gregory's AI switch it side make the sniper rifle and the model and done. It's not that much work for this one at least. NOW for why it would be a good idea as a unit. a mobile sniper give the GM more options than a immobile sniper it can be moved to better sniper nests when the rebels leave the area, it can be given abilities unlike the other snipers, and it could be used to keep the rebels pinned down unlike the immobile one which is stuck in one spot and can't do sh*t if a nade comes its way you can move them.
advantages of mobile sniper
advantages of mobile sniper
- easier to support troops with
- can move out of range on nades
- able to move the sniper with the battle with out wasting a trap.

Theres a reason they cant do shit if a grenade comes at them, its for balancing. snipers are immobile and can be taken out with explosives, thats how it works. and im sure there is more to it than just "just take father Gregory's AI switch it side make the sniper rifle and the model and done", and to me the whole making of the sniper rifle model sounds rather challenging. besides, a sniper is only a mere annoyance anyways, its rather easy to avoid the beam. besides, i cant think of a real ability for the sniper, its basically "use gun on rebel."

I don't know how to reply to this other than are you retarded. A mobile sniper think about it it would have actual health so you could kill it with a pistol or a grenade, it would be more of what a sniper is suppose to be a tactical unit not a minor annoyance as it is using the combine unit trap is a waist of time because its a ragdoll that has a beam coming out of its dick.

You: "2. if an idea truly sucks don't reply saying its a peace of shit or something like that you will get heavy flame war."
also you: "I don't know how to reply to this other than are you retarded."
Also, since when has the sniper in HL2 been more than an annoyance? Overwatch isn't going to break canon for a reason such as that.

Stop with the fucking canon thing if they wanted to stick to canon the mod would not exist for the most part riot shields wouldn't be there roles wouldn't be there THE GM wouldn't exist so stop with the canon thing its a mod.

Warbrand2 is right in that we're not really sticking to canon. However, we've tried not to make any changes to the way things are represented in-game. The Shield didn't exist, so we added it. The Sniper, on the other hand, does exist. As ChromeE stated, we'd need a pretty good reason to want to mess with its current behaviour.
