ow_hostel is a cooperative based map based in city 52.

How is this map cooperative?

This map forces the rebels to split up into groups and to activate things at the same time.

What if it is just me, myself and I?

The objectives scale up in difficulty and change depending on the number of players.

An example?

The first objective on this map will be the group must work together to lower a bridge. The bridge will be controlled by valves that will need to be cranked.
Depending on the number of players involved the numbers of valves that need to be cranked will change.

for one to three players it will be one.
for four to five players it will be two.
and for six to seven players it will be three.

Where is City 52?

New England in the United States. Don't worry the combine like to make everything look the same. But for story purpose's I wanna separate myself from City 17.

Story?

You will see. You will love it :). I hope...

I thought you weren't showing the new map until it was time for play-testing?

The contest rules. Stupid evil bunny...

So will you be around still?

My desktop will not have internet so I will not be in game. I can always get a post or picture up online via my net-book or some other means.

Update coming today provided things go my way. Stay Tuned.

Update: Things didn't go my way :/ (have you ever seen 500 days of summer? http://vimeo.com/8582845). My situation wasn't that bleak :D. Unless you consider unpacking a relationship? then yes it's depressing like that LOL. anyways I am hoping by soon I will have screenshots.

Finally got something to post online progress wise ( I am never moving again.) Alright I got the basic layout done it's a work in progress obviously but It will come together as I get there. I have the majority of starting area done. Feel Free to comment on it. It's not perfect but it's a rough idea of what I want it to look like. like I said when I get to an area I will flesh it out more. ok...let's post some pictures here...

Spawn Room
I wanted it to be an old break room where a maintenance employee would spend his time.
Still needs some touching up. I am thinking of putting in a table with ammo.

Old Generator Room.

View outside the break room looking left into an old generator room. Rebels made this thier camp. I will add things that make it look more camped out and occupied but for now I just wanted to get the idea down.

from vents

if you follow the vents it leads to outside the building. I wanna place a manhack spawn inside the vents I think that would look kinda creepy.

if you went right when you left the break room you would be standing in between this door way. This is looking in from the outside.

This map was inspired by the Holyoke Canal System. I grew up in Holyoke as a kid. (I live like 23 minutes from it today). It's know for it's abandon industrial buildings and the canals. My college is in Holyoke. It's a has a high crime rate so the downtown area is largely experiencing urban decayed. So I feel you create what you know and this is what I know. This bridge is inspired by a few of the foot bridges running across the canal. I see little kids playing on them ignoring caution signs all the time. I did that too when I was a munchkin haha. So I put it in my map.

I am concrenerd you might not be using the grid, there shouldn't be spaces under brushes like that.

no I mean all the gaps, like when you satart in the spawn room, there are gaps under what I guess are counters... are you using the "snap to grid" function?

oh no, PLEASE tell me you build using the "nodraw" texture...right?

remember, if the map isn't technically sound when shit goes wary it's a lot harder to fix.

Dear fellow Overwatchians :) lol...

I decided that I would like to drop out of the race because it's the most honorable thing to do. I feel it is an insult to those who have followed the contest rules and competed to the best of their ability. As much as I would LOVE to win and be part of this mod. At the moment this doesn't seem to be possible, I have a very heavy course load this semester in school (piece of advice? don't take 2d animation it's bullshit and the work is annoying). due to this class actual I can blame it entirely on this class lol. It has taken up the majority of my free time after work and girl time. I am also involved in several groups in a movement in the united states with educational cuts and attending these meeting and writing articles for local newspapers is the second time consumer. I will work on my maps and I thought I could learn to map and do all this other stuff and well it isn't possible. I am causing myself to freak out when lol no one is forcing me to map, mapping should be labor of love not a necessity. So I am dropping from the race. This isn't due to anything forced on me either :) sometimes you just gotta know when you put too much on your plate and cut the losses.

P.S. I know I need to finish this map... i'll get to it... as soon as the 14th f *&^%ng passes by (last day of 2d animation class). irony...

That's right kids, you heard the man. No-one threatened or pulled a gun on him. He dropped out on his own free-will.

Good luck
