Half life 2:wars

i just played this mod that is called half life 2 wars and its awesome even thought theres only 3 levels and its version 0.5, its an rts for hl2
there are 3 default maps and 3 factions (2 in the current build) im gonna talk about the combine because thats what overwatch is about and since there are no buildings in this mod (Overwatch) ill talk about the soldiers and hl2 wars' overwatch. in this mod the overwatch has some more control but at the same time less control you can tell the soldier when and where to throw nades and for elites anti matter balls which i would love to see in overwatch and they have a stalker unit (like the ones in the citadel) to build stuff like buildings and barricades etc so if the technician unit in an other thread ever gets to the game he could maybe assume the same role but not build buildings just turrets mines and guns(mounted ones).
The HUD is just amazing not really different to each faction but still awesome if overwatch could get a HUD like this (which im sure it will in time) it would be AMAZING.

im gonna end here and just say try the mod out (especially the devs) to see what overwatch could look like in the future. Over watch will probaly be better but still to get a basic idea

id like to see what the devs think about the mod too

I have been watching hl2 wars for a year the next V comes out soon its just a MP demo but still.

You are not going to convince the devs of this mod to play and use ideas from Half-Life 2: Wars for this mod. Not while I'm here, and nor will they. Stealing from a mod makes you seem like an unintelligent bastard, so I suggest the administrators of this forum should lock this thread right. No really, lock it. And plus, Overwatch has already decided their basis for gameplay and such, and it probably wouldn't include basebuilding, manning pulse turrets, or anything of that sort. I am not saying you can't, but they shouldn't be looking at this thread for that, they can develop and come up with those ideas themselves.

Lock this thread.

I've personally already played HL2:Wars. I've been reading up on their latest changes, they seem to be improving it plenty, which is good.

In my opinion, there's absolutely no harm in looking at other games for inspiration, or even just to see how they handle a certain aspect of the game. If I remember correctly, HL2W even released their old source code to the public, basically inviting everyone to take a look.

Making games isn't about reinventing the wheel. That's like saying we need to come up with an awesome new crouch feature. Just because we can, doesn't mean it's a good idea.

As a million people have probably already said: ideas are a dime a dozen and making a good game is all in the execution.

Well, you didn't do a very good job of showing you were taking it as inspiration. Some lame, half-ass discussion like that? C'mon man, be smart about. You sound like some 9 year old saying, "lets take der ideaz!"

...That really seems harsh, it is a discussion. Really, if the thread was just locked it would kill an interesting discussion(well it is just a discussion about another game that just happens to be RTS and based on the same universe), I mean HL2 Wars is heading in a very different direction than this mod probably is. RTS/FPS is rarely seen in the gaming community and most that come out are usually frowned upon(see the game "The Outfit"[personally I loved that game].

There's nothing to discuss. Half-Life 2: Wars is its own mod, and the purpose that the creator of this thread was hinting at was, "Hey, these guys have it, we should do it!" That's not even cool, and therefore doesn't deserve to be discussed. He could have suggested those for himself, but no, he had to point out that Half-Life 2: Wars has it. I don't think so.

Sounds like he's a youngster with an enthusiasm for another well made mod, his intention wasn't negative. I played HL2:Wars a while back and it was the first time I'd seen an RTS mechanic in the Source engine, was impressive and fun to play. Those are the kinds of mods any team should be taking inspiration from.

As long as it stays as inspiration and not an idea-bucket to take features and ideas from, that's fine with me. I've been with HL2 Wars for over 2 years now, so you understand my position of loyalty. Your mod is great, it really is, but just try to stick your own canon, ok?
