so I was playing another session of Overwatch (it's a new mod, perhaps you heard of it) and I was chatting with some non-forum goers and they had some interesting questions/comments, questions/comments such as.

"where are the zombies?"
"I saw zombies in the trailer but there are none ingame"
"wasn't there a detailed version of this map?"
"what do you mean there are only two maps?"
"rtv"
"can someone change the map plox"
"wasn't this suppost to be the big release?"

now I would like to point out these were said by players who most likely don't know this forum exists or simply do not go here, and they are direct quotes, the first two were from a new player (ecofspy), who was playing his first game... he also asked "how do you buy shields"

I am a big fan of Overwatch and I think it's a great mod, but I must ask...

why is the Overwatch team advertising content they have yet to release?
I understand that these maps are still under construction (I hope) but can I at least get some estimated dates of when you plan to update?

with kind regards

Did you try to visit blackmesasource on April fools day?

if not heres a recap:
On front page there stood: "BMS have been released click the download to get to the download site" (See false advertising)
if you clicked it you will see those shouting dog like creatures have sex, and then a meter that shows how many got tricked.
that is it

So as you see, they did it for the lulz, and they actually typed it with very big letters "IT'S A JOKE" - or something like that.

It was kind of obvious it was a joke from the way the video and the news post was done. People that didn't like it should go read The Onion.

Hey,

No matter how big I write the "Joke" word, some people will still miss it (by not reading the whole post). It's understandable, they'll eventually get it.

As for estimated release dates of new updates, most items in the being implemented section of the dev report should be released very soon (we plan to release updates at least every few weeks).

Most people just aren't used to this type of progressive release scheme anymore, as most mods these days tend to go for lots of dev work behind the scenes before one big release. We're going for a more traditional way (similar to mods like Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat).

I hope that helps!

I understood it was a joke, but apparently others did not... I also know that the dev team will be adding zombies as an enemy for both sides.

but most of the questions were refering to the OTHER video, where it highlights the two new maps as well as an updated version of breach... if you are saying that video was also a joke I will be very...very...very sad face.

There were gravity socks(!), of course it was a joke! That was the whole point.

...and yes, according to the OW Team they will be adding headcrabs+zombies as a common enemy for their latest map (ow_coast). Check the dev reports!

The Zombie video was a joke (We're not getting gravity socks anytime soon.). The trailer where a combine teleports into a pole was supposed to be funny. (:)) And the trailer with all the new maps was real. Breach probably isn't getting new textures until all the bugs get worked out. Coast got pushed back for undisclosed reasons, with zombies, headcrabs, gunships, dropships, etc. And I don't know if we're getting rtv anytime soon. It would help when the map change bug shows up.

most of the games I've played have all had rockthevote as a plugin, so... having it built in will be awesome. (caveat: should have settings per server, or else we may still find plugins that want to replace it, if Overwatch really takes off.)

I was a tad confused when I played OW after the 1.10 update to find Breach still untextured, despite it being so in the video. I understand that the devs have their own version weeks ahead in development, but surely a version which is exactly the same as currently released Breach but textured as shown in the trailer could have been released for the update, in order to pacify some of the new players who are used to seeing more textured maps.

I don't think releasing an unpolished map, even if it's textured, would help at all (and by polish I mean the actual code/entity/IO logic/layout/balance that goes into it).

As for the video, it seems that ModDB has an interesting problem of displaying the wrong one. *sigh*

I'll contact the admins about that today..
